At Compact Home Lift, Our expertise extends to all aspects of home lifts, including their benefits, limitations, and design features. We thought we would share some of our A-Z insights, providing a concise overview of home lifts that will enable you to become nearly as knowledgeable as we are.
A – Access
A home lift offers effortless access to all floors, enabling smooth travel at the push of a button. This enhances your ability to enjoy rooms throughout the day with peace of mind, providing greater freedom and independence.
B – Balance
Customers often choose home lifts to manage conditions like vertigo or labyrinthitis that affect balance. For those prone to dizziness, using stairs or stairlifts can be risky. A Compact Home Lift offers a reliable and smooth way to move between floors, reducing fall risk through its safe operation and integrated weight sensors. The Compact Elegance lift supports up to 170kg, while the Compact Elegance (Plus) accommodates up to 250kg. If these limits are exceeded, the sensors will halt the lift to ensure safe operation.
C – Compact
The area of the lift designated for passengers, referred to as the lift car, occupies the majority of the floor space owing to the exceptionally slender supporting rails. This design allows the residential lift to maintain one of the smallest footprints in the domestic lift market, encompassing just over half a square meter in total.
D – Dumbwaiter
An unexpected advantage of installing a home lift is its capability to serve as a dumbwaiter. If you find yourself on the ground floor and are contemplating how to transport a large laundry basket up the stairs, you can effortlessly send it up in the lift. Similarly, you can conveniently pack your vacation bags upstairs and use the lift to transport them downstairs before you depart for your trip.
E – Energy Efficient
We often perceive a home lift as being highly energy-consuming, Compact Home Lifts are different. Unlike lifts in offices or multi-storey buildings, Compact Home Lifts are lightweight and feature a compact motor drive system hidden in the lift’s roof space. Plus, they plug directly into a standard 13-amp wall socket.
F – Fall Arrest Mechanism
The full weight of our home lifts are supported by two robust steel cables, discreetly concealed within the supporting rails. In the rare event that the cables break or lose tension, the lift motor’s built-in fall arrest system will automatically activate, applying emergency brakes to ensure your protection. This guarantees the highest level of safety for users, at all times.
G – GST
GST is chargeable on all Compact Home Lifts. However, if the main purpose of the lift pertains to mobility issues you may be exempt from paying GST. Please contact our office for more details.
H – Half Height Gate & Full Height Light Curtain
Half height gates are fitted as standard with a monitored electric lock that ensures the lift car door stays closed while the lift is moving, releasing only when it has reached its destined stop. All lifts are equipped with a full height safety light curtain, creating a barrier across the entrance of the lift stopping the lift from moving further if there is an obstruction.
I – Installation
Our Compact Home Lifts are installed quickly and efficiently. With no need for a lift shaft, the installation is straightforward and is typically completed in under 2-days for a standard retrofit.
J – Joy
We frequently receive positive reviews from customers who say that installing a Compact Home Lift has profoundly ‘transformed their lives’. It has often allowed them to regain independence and move freely throughout their homes, something they were previously unable to do. Investing in a domestic lift has also enabled many to avoid downsising or relocating to a senior living apartment, allowing them to remain in the home they cherish for longer. There’s no doubt that a home lift contributes significantly to joy and well-being.
K – Kit Form
Our modular lifts arrive in ‘kit form’ and are assembled on-site by our expert installation team.
L – (Flexible) Location
Compact Home Lifts can be installed in almost any home. Due to their compact design, our lifts can be installed in small closet spaces, discreet corners of main rooms, or even as a prominent feature in the room. Whether you need to move between the master bedroom and the lounge or between the hallway and the upstairs landing, we can help find the perfect location for your lift.

N – NO walls needed!
Our lifts don’t require walls thanks to our innovative dual rail system, which forms a fully self-supporting structure. The entire weight of the lift and its framework is distributed through the rails directly into the home’s floor. This smart design means the Compact Home Lift does not impose any extra load on the home.
O – Options
We offer two lift options tailored to individual needs:
- Compact Elegance: Swiftly transports two passengers between floors in under 30 seconds.
- Compact Elegance Plus: Innovative wheelchair lift, spacious yet compact, accommodating standard-sized wheelchairs and users with walking frames.
P – Power Cuts
Our lifts are equipped with a standard emergency battery backup system, ensuring continuous operation during power outages. This feature guarantees safe descent to the lowest level of the home, allowing passengers to exit smoothly.
Q – Quiet
Our product utilises a unique electric motor which is typically quieter than stairlifts, hydraulic elevators, or vacuum systems. Visit one of our showrooms to experience first-hand the serene operation of our lifts.
R – Residences (of all shapes and sizes!)
Our home lifts have been installed in all kinds of residences, from small homes right through to the Scottish residence for the use of the late Queen Elizabeth II herself. If you think your house is too small to accommodate a domestic lift, think again, it takes up very little floorspace, in fact its footprint is no larger than a small armchair.
S – Safety (and Servicing)
Ensuring safety and security is our top priority. Our lifts feature exceptional safety measures, such as a safety curtain that prevents operation if any obstruction is detected, door sensors for closure assurance, top and bottom sensors to detect obstacles, and push-button operation for user control.
T – Travel Speed
Our Home Lifts outperforms stairlifts by transporting two passengers between average-sized floors in under 30 seconds, providing a swift alternative.
U- Unique Guide System
The self supporting structure of the vertical rails bear the entire load of the lift. No additional burden is placed on the structure of your home.
V – Very Small Footprint
The Compact Elegance footprint is a remarkably small at 0.8m2 . The slightly larger Compact Elegance Plus footprint will accommodate a standard-sized wheelchair, and has a footprint of 1.44m2 .
W – Wheelchair-friendly
We offer a lift that is precisely suited to wheelchair requirements, whether you presently use a wheelchair or expect to in the future. The Compact Elegance Plus is specifically designed for individuals facing mobility challenges, offering the freedom and independence to navigate your home autonomously. This model, deeper than the Compact Elegance, comfortably accommodates standard-sized wheelchairs. Furthermore, individuals who utilise a walking frame can benefit from it.

“I have just started on the journey of the installation of a Compact Home Lift. The builder Matt who cut a hole in my ceiling was absolutely fabulous. He worked continuously without a break until the job was done. He left the job spotless and answered all my many questions with a smile…”
